I was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, of Métis, Scottish and German ancestry. I grew up in the North West Territories before moving to Ottawa with my family when my father was elected Member of Parliament. My family members include writers, painters, film makers, musicians and radio personalities.

Since graduating, I have pursued a range of artistic disciplines including oil painting, music, song writing, and interior design. In the 1980’s in partnership with David Grey as rock group Roman Grey we wrote, recorded and released several international albums, with songs charting in Canada, Italy and Germany. During the 1990’s I worked in Canada, the United States and Europe in construction project management. Most recently I spent five years in the Middle East in a project management design capacity, helping build luxury hotels and museums. During breaks between international projects I had the privilege to collaborate with Alanis Morissette on the design of her Buddhist themed Ottawa condo.

Throughout the various periods of my life as I have travelled the world and pursued different creative avenues, oil painting was always my first love and something I pursued as time permitted. The recent discovery of a cure for a lifetime visual affliction has freed me to pursue painting for the first time without any handicaps and painting has now become my central creative pursuit. Most recently I have helped found the Ottawa Art Expo, Ottawa’s largest and most prestigious art exposition; created the North Light Artists Group; and in 2010 received the ‘Emily Carr Legacy’ award for my painting ‘Soldiers Crossing Sappers Bridge, 1900’.
